Building wooden bows - week final courses ---> Terms



Also in this year I offer again some courses for bow building. Everyone can participate, so they can discover the love for the bow sport. or also simply a "wood lover". The courses are for women and men and for young people starting from 16. Years (younger participants only with an Adult). Somewhat craftsmanship is of advantage.
To ensure optimal class participation the course is limited to 5 participants .

Course contents:

  • Historical development of the bow and arrow
  • Conception of different types of bow woods
  • Feel the strengths of the bow woods
  • The form of the bow from the bow wood, draw
  • Feel and respective the specific characteristics of the wood
  • Recognizing and understanding the growth -specific characteristics of the bow wood
  • Make the bow easier to draw
  • the tension develop, fine tuning
  • the term "to over draw" to experience and understand what happens with a bow. ( which is not theoretically easy to learn)
  • Preparation and making of a string
  • Preparation of 2 arrows and to learn the refinements in the arrow building

Each bow created is a Unikat, made from your own hands. Only someone who has built a bow knows how to treat and handle the bow and also knows how much love for details are in it.who arranged even a sheet white like one it treat must and like much love for the details are in it. To the conclusion we will try firing the equipment which was made. We will analyze the shooting style and discuss improvements. Also sociability does not come too briefly. Over a nice lunch, we will have sufficient time to get to know each other and be able to exchange information. At the end of each day we will come together for a nice cup of coffee and some baked cakes.

Bow types available:



(1) Ash Flat bow
Ash can be worked on well. By the clean stature it makes itself a beautiful even bow, which makes it easy to tiller. For young people and for the "first bow" I recommend this one.

(2) Black Locoust Flat bow
Robinie is tougher than Ash and it likes to grow together. It is this character that makes this selfbow a one-of-a- kind work of art. I also recommend this for a "first bow".

(3) Osage orange Flat bow
The best wood for flat bows. It likes to twist and grow together. The bow can be kept shorter because the enormous stability of this wood. The steamed recurve end supports the outstanding throwing characteristics.
Material costs 140 €

(4) Bamboo Yew Flat bow
This bow stands out particularly for it´s stylish and pleasant shooting behavior. The main work that lies here is the tiller. This bow lays very good in hand and have a high shooting comfort.

(5) English long bow from Hickory, acacia , and Yew
Three woods are assigned optimally according to their characteristics. The attached horn tips holds the string on safe and gives the classical longbow it´s characteristic appearance. This bow shoots particularly good even at longer distances.
Material costs 190 €

(6) English long bow grown from Yew wood
This course is for those who already has a little bow building experience. A certain fine feeling is necessary for working with Yew wood, because Yew wood is the most sensitive bow wood there is.
Course cost 330 €

With courses in Wertheim Lindelbach:
the including 2 times rich vegetarian lunch predominantly out controls for biological cultivation.
2 x coffee and house-made cakes and beverages after choice.
